English cottage garden in bloom in Cotswolds.

Unsurprisingly the English cottage garden remains a popular favourite with the English and many others in the UK. Mention the words and this style of garden conjures up a range of images in the mind.

Post in the comments section about how you’ve made changes to your garden to make it more like an English cottage garden >>

Here are some simple tricks from Ken to brighten up your garden and give it a little bit of English colour.

1: Perennials, can be hard work to maintain as they will require digging up every 3 to 4 years to make sure that you keep a clean well spaced herbaceous border.

2: Get a bench installed – so you can look at this beautiful collection of flowers in bloom.

3: Alliums and a few climbing roses above the door can instantly transport you to the English cottage garden, so get them in the ground!

Foxgloves are one of the truly standout flowers likely to feature in any English cottage garden and their bright pink or white traditonal colours, at height, give a depth and feel to the garden landscape that only alliums can match.
