Q: I have been plagued by red ants making nests in my lawn. I’ve tried all sorts of sprays and advice from the Garden Centre to no avail. How do I get rid of them?
A: A tip I gained from a listener to my programme is to put a terracotta pot over the anthill. Leave it for several weeks and because the inside of the pot becomes warmer than the ground the ants will migrate their nest into the pot. If you take a peek periodically you can see how the nest is coming along. When it looks complete, slide a spade under the pot and carry it away for disposal!
